Put A Spin On Your Halloween

Halloween’s coming up and all the questions surrounding it: What do I wear? Where am I celebrating (maybe Castle McCulloch in Greensboro, NC)? Is this the year I go as a sexy nun? On this spooky holiday, costumes make everyone tap into their playful and sensual side. How you feel in your get-up is vital to having a good time.

This Halloween, Biondi & Co Boudoir in Winston-Salem, is offering Halloween boudoir photo shoots. After one session, you’ll come away feeling just the right amount of sexy and spooky. In this article, we’ll go over how to choose the right cosplay character for your photoshoot.  Check out some of our Halloween cosplay photography: Coven Shoot  and our Jason Friday the 13th Shoot.

Creating a HALLOWEEN Costume

Creating a budget for your costume. Every character needs a costume. It doesn’t have to be expensive like professionally-made cosplay costumes, just something you can make work for you. You could always buy your costume online, in vintage stores, or in other costume shops. A costume budget typically includes headpieces, weaponry, clothes, shoes, makeup, and accessories.

Because Halloween is around the corner, it’s good to make sure you have plenty of time to create your costume. If you have a larger budget, the Greensboro, Winston-Salem and High Point area has great vintage clothing stores, Halloween stores and you can probably find a professional costume designer. Even contacting Greensboro or Winston Salem based theater groups can be a good idea if you are looking to rent a costume.  If you’re working with a smaller budget, you can make one from the clothes you already have. Look online for DIY costumes and potentially buy the accessories you can’t make yourself. Borrowing a costume works too!

Fleshing Out Your Cosplay Costumed Alter Ego

It can be overwhelming to find a cosplay character that you love, enjoy acting as, and can put together within budget. If you’re simply lacking the imagination or having trouble coming up with a character, make a list. Write down your favorite books, movies, and series. Before you choose your character, circle the ones you gravitate to most or give you a thrill when you think about them, or one that inspires you. Going with your gut here can really help you choose what you want.

If you’re struggling to pick one character, ask yourself which character has the best costume and design based on your personal style and comfort level. If you’re looking to really channel your character, look for character attributes that can come through during the photo shoot like strength, beauty, wit, magical ability, talent, status, and intelligence. Consider playing with color, fashion accessories, hairstyles, footwear, and outfits. If you feel most comfortable in boots instead of heels, then, by all means, wear boots.

After making a checklist of all the things you need to buy or collect or bargain for, take your outfit for a test run. Walk around your room, show your friends and/or partner, and try it on for size. To truly feel in touch with your character you need to become them. Get familiar with your costume and how you feel and move in it. What sort of thoughts or postures arise when you’re in your costume?
